It’s the Love Cats! Starring Stelmaria and Kirjava
I just remembered this little video I made a while back. It’s a compilation of bits of all the little videos I shot of our Kittens. It’s done to the tune of Love Cats by the Cure:
No it’s not raining in Brisbane, but I just got a new plugin that will stream mp3’s.
I just had to dig up an old recording and try it out. I would use a new recording.. If I had one. My setup for recording isn’t so good. I might have to invest in a nice sound card made for recording.
To reconcile with the past, we need to know the full story of what has happened; both shame and honour.
It’s only through clear and unbiased reporting of events that we can hope to know the true nature of humanity in all it’s imperfect glory.
Understanding is the path to reconciliation.
On this ANZAC day, I not only remember the soldiers who died, but let my mind wander to dread. It is the sneaking suspicion lurking unwanted in the back of my mind that peace may be a pipe-dream. There are those in the world who are so far removed from reality that they will send people to their deaths not as a last resort, but as a first.
Where nationalism provides unity and security for a nation, would worldism provide peace for humanity? Before the technological age, this could be unimaginable, as the world is so physically large that differences in culture and attitudes will vary greatly across the various regions.
In the technological age, the distance between opposite sides of the globe can be shrunken to nothing, but will provide only a glimpse of the side of society that is physical. Perhaps it would bring humanity just close enough to allow a lasting peace.
In the end, I get back to the realisation, that the variety of this great planet is what allows us to know what it feels like to accept someone in all their difference, and respect them when they share the values of freedom we hold dear.
Today I remember those who fought for those values.
The title of the post is misleading. It’s neither Magical.. or a mystery.
I got the youtube embed working, and I’ll kick it off with a little video I shot at Roma Street station when I was changing trains a couple of weeks ago. I saw a guy wearing these shoes and I felt they needed to be documented.
As the sun dives gracefully below the the horizon, an army of smartly dressed insects swarm out of their looming block hives. It’s five o’clock, time to go, catch that train, gotta get home.
Here’s a picture I took while waiting for the train the other day at Roma Street Station.
The quality is horrible, I know. I hope I’ve made it small enough in the blog so that it’s not so noticeable. Nokia did a pretty bad job with the camera on the 2160. Advantage though.. I don’t look like a tourist (as I do if I carry my other camera around) .. that’s about the only advantage.
As you can see, the cold metallic poles and live wires put an ugly face on a beautiful scene. It makes me think of trains in the broader sense. Wherever the train line goes, it drops the value of the properties right next to the line, and the screech of the wheels against the tracks will carry far on a still night.
A consistent and comprehensive bus system, coupled with bus rapid transit systems will make the train obsolete. Once the buses are electric, or even hydrogen powered (assuming a cheap way of producing hydrogen is discovered) the environmental impacts will be negligible. A friend of mine works at Queensland Rail. Apparently per person on average, running the train system uses more power than a car.
This I found interesting. And I wonder how much it has to do with the constant improving upon fuel efficiency as new cars get designed and built. There’s a new Citroen coming out that can drive 1000km on one tank of petrol, almost 4L per 100km (60 mpg) of Diesel fuel.
That’s the one, Citroen C1. I don’t know if I’d want to drive it.
A blog.. Little page of thoughts both profound and mundane.
Welcome to my first official post.
The daily grind of working 9 to 5 is both rewarding and disheartening. Rewarding only so far as i am productive and earning my pay. Where it is disheartening is that my artistic side is relegated to 4 to 5 hours in which i feel too exhausted to do much at all. How is it that a desk job can be exhausting?
At least my time isn’t wasted entirely. To and from work i can listen to informative and entertaining radio national shows or a history lecture.
But how about that i can blog from my mobile. Making great use of my time
One step up from the Nokia 6120 classic. A qwerty keyboard and more memory for multitasking and i’d be freed of the oppressive attention seeking desktop.
Right now i can’t access my web server from my desktop for some weird reason. And while it’s possible to edit and create sites on the phone with text editing and ftp, it’s just painstakingly tedious. Just like this blogging!
